Project overview

The Iberdrola Group is embarking on its second significant offshore wind venture in the Baltic Sea with the development of Baltic Eagle. Situated 30 kilometers northeast of Rügen Island along the Pomeranian coast in Germany, this new 476-megawatt (MW) project aims to provide renewable energy to approximately 475,000 households.

Smulders and Equans, the joint venture partners were responsible for the manufacturing of the offshore substation jacket, the JV contracted OES in the Design, Manufacturing, Installation and Offshore Commissioning of an ICCP system to protect the Offshore Substations Jacket foundation.

Due to the challenging environment and high-water resistivity designing a galvanic anode system was proving almost impossible, OES designed and modelled the world’s largest ICCP system for an offshore renewable jacket structure optimising coating strategy and presenting an optimum corrosion protection strategy for the foundation.
